A Brief History of Painting for Pleasure
The group was formed in October 2005 when our funding from East Durham
College was withdrawn due to lack of numbers qualifying for the GCSE
course.
The members decided we liked being together as a group and we formed
Painting for Pleasure which is exactly as described, we paint for our
own satisfaction, helping each other to develop our knowledge and our own style. This encourages a relaxed, therapeutic approach where our
members can express their own individuality and invesitage new mediums as well as accessing fine art.
We meet at Trimdon Grange Community Centre on Thursdays during term
time, from 1 till 4pm. We are open to anyone who wants to join and the fee
is £1.50 weekly, including refreshments. Some materials are available
at little or no cost.
Occassionally we have a tutor but we also have demonstrations and workshops by some of our more talented members.
We are celebrating the success of two of our members, Joyce Duncan who
won first prize in the county-wide competition people and places, (on
show at Bishop Auckland Town Hall from FEb 9th) and William Robson who was runner-up in a Borough-wide self portrait competition (currently on display at Spennymoor Leisure Centre). Congratulations to both of
them.
